BioTechathalon

A 2-day competition converging biotechnology, medicine, and business.

BioScholars’ annual BioTechathalon is a two-day interdisciplinary team competition.

With corporate backing and consultation from biotech companies like Genentech and Pfizer and in cooperation with other biology and honors organizations on campus, BioTechathalon presents participants with a challenging problem that biotechnology companies currently face.

What you’ll be doing

The participants are tasked to work together with their team members to come up with their best solution to the posed question by drawing from diverse fields such as biology, ethics, communications, and finance. They are asked to present their solution to a panel of judges comprised of company representatives and UCSD professors. Teams are either pre-formed or randomly assigned.

Solutions may be mobile applications, biotechnology devices, and everything in between, coupled with a proper marketing and scaling business plan.

Winners of the competition are not only awarded money prizes but also may have the opportunity to obtain internships through the connections they build with biotech companies at the competition.
